Istanbul-born designer and architect Neptun Ozis is continuing the work of his father, Sadi Ozis. A passion for sailing runs throughout his life.
With his design studio, now based in London, he has made a name for himself internationally – for product design, and as a specialist in the building and interior design of high-end yachts. Ozis is a lecturer in yacht and furniture design at universities in Istanbul and Izmir, as well as a being a racer of offshore yachts himself.
Neptun Ozis developed the Moualla table for Walter Knoll, named in homage to the great Turkish painter Fikret Moualla. Back in 1964, Ozis’s father, Sadi Ozis, a good friend and student of Moualla’s, developed a chair of the same name for the Academy of Fine Arts in Istanbul.
What defines Ozis’s approach to design? Refinement of the seemingly simple, and distinctive craftsmanship. On the similarities between himself and Walter Knoll, Ozis says: “We both have our roots in furniture and design history. We don’t want to set trends – rather, we want to create timeless pieces of furniture. We both place value on the details, and on quality. That is why our cooperation is so harmonious."
